Conductor Marin Alsop launches The Bernstein Project in spectacular style with a day-long celebration of the life and inspiration of Leonard Bernstein. A day of free events in Royal Festival Hall leads to this performance of music from Bernstein to Beethoven, with films of the composer’s life, members of the Bernstein family and life-long colleagues. The concert also includes a mass gathering of performers including the first outing of the specially convened Mass Orchestra performing together with Voicelab, Southbank Centre’s professional and community-based choir.
